The Organist - A text-based horror adventure

You lead a normal life. Too normal, perhaps. Work, home, sleep and repeat – but your room overflows with dreams sprouting from your most treasured possessions: a typewriter and a piano.

You are a writer and a musician suffering from a terrible impostor syndrome who was never able to complete one single project of his. Nightmares haunt your sleep and fill you with regret for a life you are yet to start living.

Will this be the night when everything changes?

Made in Ink

The Organist is a piece of interactive fiction about 1 hour long, entirely programmed with the Inklestudios Ink engine. It is a choice-based game riddled with text, atmosphere and loads of buttons.

The base Ink engine does not include the option to save game states, meaning The Organist must be completed all in one sitting at this stage. I plan to transfer the game onto Unity as soon as I can, so that I can add music, illustrated backgrounds and most certainly the possibility to save and load your game.

Main Features

The Organist is an introspective psychological horror game and it is entirely text-based. Your choices will influence the outcome of the game, with 4 different endings depending on the path you choose.

You can absolutely rush through the hour of gameplay required, though you may miss some key items which will lock at least one ending from you.

Meet a number of shady and mysterious figures, travel through several captivating locations and lose yourself in the horror atmosphere that The Organist has to offer, as you face your worst nightmares.

Development Roadmap

The bare structure of the game is complete, and both story and choices should be entirely bug-free. Please do let me know in the comments if you encounter any game-breaking bug, so I can go back and fix it!

Albeit entirely playable, in its current state, The Organist is 'just' a text-based adventure with multiple choices at every node. I would love to be able to transfer the game into Unity as soon as my work commitments allow me to, and evolve the game from there until a full-rounded release.

In the future, I may even make a first-person, fully-playable horror game out of this piece of interactive fiction. We'll see!

The Author

Hi everybody! I'm Anthony L. Wolf, writer and narrative designer based in London. I dream of working on a narrative-heavy, AAA game someday, and I knew I needed to start somewhere to get there.

About two years ago, I started learning to code on my own. I bought a few courses off of Udemy and began following Brackeys's YouTube channel to get started in Unity. Lately, I have discovered Twine and I then fell in love with Ink, so I decided to try and showcase my writing skills by programming a full game. The Organist is my first game project and I can't wait to hear what you guys think of it, good or bad!

If you wish to follow me on other channels, you can find me on Instagram as anthonylwolf or Twitter as @AnthonyLWolf. Pretty easy to remember, right? :)
